Teen Social Justice iRadio

Every two years, 7th and 8th grade Catholic students of Transfiguration Church and School prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation — one of the three sacraments of initiation into the Catholic Church, the other two being Baptism and Holy Communion.

One year, under the direction of CRE Walter Coddington, children researched, wrote and recorded social justice-themed podcasts as one of their confirmation preparation homework assignments.

I took the time to listen to a few of the podcasts. Wow! What a great assignment for your confirmation candidates. I thought the topics and presentations were well thought out. Hearing the concern about global warming and the politicians’ denial of it brought a tear to my eyes. It is great to see students being up to date with current events and the issues of the day. Ignoring these and the other unpleasant social issues will not make them go away. Social Justice is for people of all ages. A dedicated individual or group of people of any age (young or older) can truly make a difference. As you stated, we are a social people and do need to work together. I am ever optimistic that we can change and make the world the way God meant it to be. God Bless You!
